Working to change the way we live and travel to save the planet and its people.
Hey there! I’m Emily, an avid traveler and Sustainability Advocate.
While I was finishing up my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Business Studies, I came across an elective called Sustainable Business. It was the first time I encountered the triple bottom line approach. It’s what most of you know as people, planet, and profit. My professor introduced us to business models that prioritized saving the environment and uplifting communities.
You have to understand that this was several years ago when Sustainability was only beginning to make an appearance. Often times, it was used interchangeably with Corporate Social Responsibility. These are two different things, by the way, but that’s a topic for another post.
I became so engrossed in the subject that I even wrote my thesis on Sustainability Performance Assessment for a Manufacturing firm. As a gift to myself for graduation, I went on a solo traveling spree for a few months while I worked. After meeting new people and experiencing their cultures, I realized that their lives could be improved. All it took was to pay more attention to caring for the environment and treating people equally. I took everything I learned in that time and tried to apply it to my jobs, but it wasn’t enough. It dawned on me that I could do more, but I also needed to learn more.
It was then that I decided to quit my job as a Management Consultant and pursue a Masters degree in Sustainable Business and Innovation. I felt this intense need to displace myself and leave my comfort zone entirely. So I packed up my things, left Manila, and moved to Barcelona to start fresh.
During my time in Spain, I realized that I wanted to build a career in the travel industry. To apply my knowledge and skills to make travel more sustainable. Many of you, maybe even all of you, think that it’s impossible to do that in the near future. That doubt is what drives me to work harder, so I can figure it out for us.
Aviation and tourism are two of the most polluting industries, but I love to travel, and it’s the one thing I will never be able to give up. After years of searching, I’ve finally found my purpose. The meaning that was lacking was the combination of what I loved and what I believed in.
So, in order to fulfill my purpose and give meaning to my work, I created this blog. Follow me on my journey to living more sustainably through making switches, changes, and compromises.
This is my way of giving you informative and insightful content to help our planet and our people. We need to change the way we live and travel and that starts now.
What will you learn from me?
Get a glimpse of my adventures as I share travel destinations, tips, and hacks. I’ll show you how I spend my time on vacation, all while teaching you how you can color your travel “green”.
Still not sure what it means? Are you confused with all the jargon? Maybe you just want to know more about the subject. I’ll break down key concepts and share what I learned through the years, so you can be a Sustainability Advocate too.
Changing up the things we use and the stuff we do is difficult. I’m here to show you how simple it is. Through making small changes here and there, we can all become responsible consumers.
Let’s make something together.
